Cairo Tower

The Cairo Tower (Borg El-Qhira) is a must-see landmark in the heart of Cairo. Standing at 187 meters tall, it offers breathtaking views of the city and beyond. Completed in 1961, it was intended to symbolize modernity and progress. The observation deck at the top is a popular attraction, providing 360-degree views of the city. Don't miss the chance to have dinner there during your Egypt travel packages.

Cairo Tower History

The Cairo Tower is made of reinforced concrete and inspired by the ancient Egyptians' Lotus plant. The elevator takes guests to the top floor in under 45 seconds for a stunning view of Cairo's landmarks, including the Nile River and Saladin Citadel. Between 1957 and 1961, Egyptian architect Na'oum Shabib oversaw the construction of the tower, which employed over 500 Egyptian workers. The estimated cost of the building was six million pounds.

In 1961, the United States of America donated six million pounds to Egypt in an attempt to change President Nasser and the Egyptian government's stance towards their support of Algeria's independence from French occupation. However, Nasser opted to use the funds to construct the Cairo Tower instead of investing in the country's infrastructure.

From 2006 to 2008, two years ago, an Egyptian company by the name of Arab Contractors completely updated and renovated this building. It took more than fifteen million pounds to repair and reform the tower, but it was crucial to do so to keep it in top shape.
